Diwali Get-together among Doosan Babcock Family at Crawley

Diwali is celebrated each year by the Hindu, Sikh and Jain communities. It is known as the Festival of Lights, and represents the victory of light (Good) over darkness (Evil). It is in October or November: it is timed to coincide with the new moon (the darkest night of the month), so the date varies from one year to the next. This year's Diwali is on Friday 9 November 2007 (the following day is the start of the Hindu New Year).

My husband works in a company called Doosan Babcock Energy Ltd at Crawley,West Sussex. The management had organised a small get together on 9th November 2007 afternoon among the Indian collegues & their families alongwith participation from senoir stuffs of the company.

The day started with the lighting of diya by the director of the company followed by distribution of traditional Indian sweets. All local collegues liked it very much. The director addressed the gathering and wish all a Very Happy diwali. All the indian collegues presented a brief presentation of their home state in Assam and their traditions.

The above function is followed by a grand lunch at a local Indian Restaurant at Crawley where variety of Indian cuisines was served. The representative from the top management was also present in the same and everyone enjoyed the evening in a grand way.

The highlight of the evening was that all the wives of the Indian collegues wore the traditional dress of their individual states of India. I took the opportunity to wear a traditional mekhla chadar of Assam.

I am thankful to the management of my husband's company to organize such an event and give motivation to all the collegues from India.
